The short version
- Parents (or teachers) create and control accounts. Kids don’t sign up on their own.
- For a child we only keep a first name or nickname and a grade, plus game progress.
- No ads. We never sell or rent anyone’s data.
- You can see, fix, or delete your child’s information at any time.
Children’s privacy (COPPA)
Kopzy is made for children in grades 3–8, so we follow the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Child profiles are created by a parent or guardian (or by a teacher for a class). We ask for a first name or nickname and a grade only — no last name, photo, address, phone, email, or precise location from children. Children cannot chat with other users or post public content.
Parental consent. We get verifiable parental consent when a parent completes a payment-card transaction through Stripe to start a Premium plan. The free demo needs no account and collects no child information.
What we collect
- Parent or teacher account: email address and login details.
- Child profile: first name or nickname, grade, game scores, skills practiced, coins, and avatar choices.
- Payments: handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
- Anonymous stats: we use GoatCounter to count page visits. It uses no cookies, stores no IP addresses, and does not identify anyone. You can turn it off on your device by visiting kopzy.com/?nostats=1.
How we use it
Only to run Kopzy: save progress, show the parent and teacher dashboards, process payments, answer support requests, and improve the games. No advertising, no profiling for ads, no selling or sharing for marketing.
Who helps us
Stripe (payments) and Netlify (website hosting) process data only to provide their services to us. GoatCounter receives anonymous visit counts only. We may disclose information if the law requires it.
Your rights as a parent
You can review your child’s information, correct it, ask us to delete it, or stop further collection at any time. Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.
How long we keep data
We keep data while your account is open. If you close your account or ask us to delete it, we delete the child’s information within 30 days, except records we must keep by law (like payment records, kept by Stripe).
Security
We use HTTPS and reputable providers, and keep only what we need. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you if a breach affects your data as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this policy in an important way, we will post the new version here and email account holders before it takes effect.
